There’s never a better time (or a more legal one) to get out and get your hunt on and though it’s exciting, don’t forget these general safety tips
Wear Your Vest: Yeah it’s flashy and uncomfortable but if you’re going to be out in the woods you need to be easily identifiable. If you don’t have one you can get one secondhand online or even at a local sporting goods store.
Take a Phone: You’ll need some way to communicate with people back home in case of an accident or if you get lost. What if it starts to lightning or if you fall and break a bone? It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Get Your License: If you’re going to be hunting you need a license as it ensures you know what you’re doing with a shotgun. It’s illegal to hunt without one and they’re cheap and easy to obtain so follow the law.

The Kansas landscape runs the gamut from agricultural farmlands, native grasslands, wooded forests, creeks, streams, rivers, rocky hillsides, prairie lands, steep draws, wetlands, canyons, and salt marshes.

Within these various topographies are the abundance of pheasants, quail species, prairie chickens, turkeys, deer, variety of fish, mass colonies of waterfowls, migratory birds, antelopes, fox species, regional raccoons, opossum, mink, geese, ducks, elk, and so much more.Get more information here. http://summitcountyvoice.com/2011/07/04/new-colorado-state-wildlife-parks-board-to-meet/

Kansas is divided into five regions under the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism. Each region has local and district offices, were hunters can find all things hunting, from training, wildlife maps, camping sites, hunting regulations and law. Kansas has specific open hunting areas, as well as federal/state park properties, which requires hunting and fishing permits and licenses.

Hunting in Kansas is a way of life, therefore, fire arms and other types of hunting equipment, is tolerated to include bows and arrows, shotguns of 20 gauge or larger, muzzle loading shotguns, crossbrows are legal between April and May only. The statewide seasons for hunting involve shooting hours and bagging limits for all hunters.

Turkey season is April to May and October to January; fur bearing hunting and trapping is from November to March; big game, with certain restrictions, is throughout the fall and winter months. Migratory bird seasons, depending upon species, runs from February to December; game bird season is September to the end of January; and small game runs sporadically from February to November.

Kansas has a huge reputation for having a lot of dear and game for hunting. Those who are looking for bucks with massive antlers would be going to the right place. The best time to hunt would be in the fall during hunting season. It has a lot of wildlife parks that allow hunting however some of the best spots are near marshes and lakes because that’s where the game tend to hang out for water and food. Hunting south of Kansas City or near Cheyenne Bottoms.I found some more information here. Going out onto the planes are a jackpot. Places like the Kansas and Missouri Rivers attract a lot of dear and antelope.

Hunting licenses are not that expensive and the minimum age for hunting in Kansas is twelve years of age with the hunters safety course. You must wear cloths that stand out so that you are not hit by a fire of another hunter. Flexible clothing is recommended because the weather is unpredictable. There are mornings that are bitterly cold and end up being warmer by mid afternoon. Also, make sure your gun is in working condition and clean so that it does not accidentally backfire or have other dangerous problems occur.

Kansas is a fantastic place for hunters. The variety of animals and the diverse ecosystems, provide something for everyone. From squirrel to elk, Kansas offers all ranges of game.

Elk are primarily hunted at the Fort Riley Military Reservation. However there are some free ranging herds, and hunting is allowed (by permit) in all counties except Morton.

Southeast Kansas is a great place to hunt deer, squirrel, eastern turkey, quail, and rabbit. The Ozark Plateau in the far southeast is the wettest region of Kansas. Here you can hunt deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, and bobwhite quail. The Red Hills of south-central Kansas is home to bobwhite quail, turkey, and deer.

Upland birds, deer, turkey, and water fowl are found in the central lowlands. The Arkansas River lowlands also offers deer and turkey, as well as prairie chicken, quail, and pheasant.

The rolling grasslands of the Flint Hills will also provide hunting for the Kansas’ frequent four: quail, deer, turkey, and the greater prairie chicken.

The western third of Kansas is known as the High Plains. Here is where you need to go if you want to hunt for ring-necked pheasant, lesser prairie chickens, mule deer as well as whitetails, and limited amounts of antelope.
The far northeast section of Kansas is a glaciated region. Here you will find deer, turkey, bobwhite quail, rabbit, and squirrel. In north-central Kansas are the Smokey Hills. Again, deer, turkey, and quail can be hunted here. Also, pheasant and prairie chicken are available.

There are several walk-in hunting areas and controlled shooting areas in Kansas. The Kansas Department of Wildlife is a great resource to get more information about these areas, as well as permits, rules, and regulations. It may be worth you money to get a guide. Some of the best hunting in Kansas is on private land. Private land reduces the competition that exists on public hunting grounds, and may offer the chance to obtain better quality game.
